Beware of Scammers

These days, unless your eyes are wide open like a starving cat that has spied a timid mouse in the dark, you will be a target for scammers.

Scammers use all kinds of tactics to trick you. You may have received a telephone call stating that your parcel is waiting to be delivered and unless you pay the balance on postage with your debit card, they will have to return it to the sender. Or you answer to a knock on your door by well presented workman on a cold winter’s day stating that the Council has sent them to check the heating system that seems be faulty⁉️

My elderly friend was caught once. The scammers somehow matched her telephone number to her computer…. don’t ask me how ??. They directed her through her computer and pointed out a few faults they were ready to fix …but she had to pay £95 with her card. When she refused they completely disabled her pc and that was the end of that.

We used to get endless calls selling double glaze or enquiring about an accident that we never had. Once we got a telephone with a call minder those mysterious calls stopped.

Never fear, there is a lot you can do to protect yourself. The most important thing is to get informed. There is a really good resource at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/stop-scams/
