Welderlies and Young People Interact

Welderlies and young people interact

Since the first Welderlies event, the Afternoon High Tea in 2017 young people have been attending in our activities. While some had just accompanied their grandparents others were more involved. At that first event, they welcomed the Deputy Mayor and escorted him to his seat. They also took part in the dancing and hat parade. At the Shades of Autumn, apart from helping to set up one and taking part in the hand exercise, one made a presentation to the MC.

At the Pancake Warmers 2018 one had baked cookies that were served after the snacks, while others served tea and took part in the pancake race. During the Pancake Warmers of 2019 we did a brief survey asking whether our Welderlies friends would want to interact more with the younger people and the majority said they would.

A FSE/Welderlies consultative meeting was held on 30th May during the half term period at which we worked in groups to discuss what kind of activities could be done.  The FSE young cooked prepared and snacks while the Welderlies friends enjoyed. Welderlies facilitated the different sessions and a  lot of ideas were generated.

Unfortunately due to the pandemic those ideas had to be shelved and we are looking for creative ways to adapt those ideas. We know they will emerge so that we can do some productive work together that will enhance the health of both groups.
