Welderlies Walk at South Norwood Country Park

The Park

South Norwood Country Park is a park in South Norwood, close to Elmers End and Birkbeck train stations.

  1. The historic KentSurreyborder runs through the site.
  2. Since 1965 it has been located wholly in the London Borough of Croydon.
  3. It is a 47 hectare (116 acre) green space which opened in 1989.

The park is a mix of countryside and parkland, and land formerly used for sewage farms serving the growing London population.

South Norwood Country Park has undergone many changes in its long and chequered history, from the days of the Great North Wood to ancient moated house, sewage farm, farming, the war years, civil defence, allotments, wasteland, highways, refuse dump and now the Country Park.

The Walk

Date: Monday 9th May 2022

It was a beautiful Monday morning; the sky was blue and the sun was wonderfully shinning its rays upon us. We all assembled at the gates of South Norwood Park then we began our wellness walk for an hour. One of our walk leaders, Nikki, led the way, and together with Ganga, the other walk leader, they did a fantastic job of making sure that everyone in the group was not left behind

Along the way we saw beautiful flowers, strong trees with bright green leaves, we met a lot of friendly puppy friends along the path, the air we inhaled was clean and fresh. The atmosphere and sceneries were heart fulfilling. We got our steps in whilst enjoying the peaceful, define outdoors with good company!

When we completed our walk, the leaders did a debrief after which we gathered to have a cold healthy mauby refresher provided by Oriel one of our Welderlies member. We felt lucky to have the opportunity to be able to have health and strength to complete the one hour walk safely.

We invite anyone who is interested in our Welderlies Walks or other events to call 07870508790 for further information.
